Due to the overwhelming need in our community as a result of the Flood of 2010, EMI Christian Music Group, Provident Music Group, and Word Entertainment responded with Christmas in July. For the month of July, we partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank, and in five short weeks, WOW Shares raised over 60,000 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
The WOW Shares partners: EMI Christian Music Group, Provident Music Group, and Word Entertainment entered into a friendly competition to see which company could raise the most food. Each company agreed to match up to $5,000 of employee giving. EMI Christian Music Group was the overall winner with 58,587 pounds and was given a Canned Food Art Trophy and bragging rights.
Employees raised support for Second Harvest from friends, family, and colleagues through social networks, e-mails, and referrals. Additionally, food donations were raised through departmental bake sales; an “Ice Cream Break with Tin Can Treats,” which was a vintage Shasta loaded with “old school” ice cream favorites; lunch with Ana’s Table, a Veracruz Mexican food caterer; a truckload of bottled water weighing 40,000 pounds from Daily’s; and generous matching of funds within EMI Christian Music Group.
Over 60 employees donated their time by volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank’s warehouse. Employees worked in assembly-line fashion to pack Emergency Relief boxes and sorted donated foods. More than 8 pallets of Emergency Relief boxes were packed, yielding 9,600 meals
